BKMS Racing have been enjoying the off-season so far. Since the final race at the Nürburgring they have collected their trophies at the British Superkart Association (BSA) awards evening and have visited the Tarporley School Karting Team to share their experiences with budding young racers. At the BSA Awards Evening, Paul collected the trophy for the British Superkart Series win as well as winning the British Superkart Racing Club Championship. Neil proudly collected his British Series 3rd place trophy ensuring that both BKMS Racing drivers were on the British Championship final podium, a great result for everyone in the team. The awards evening was a great night with all the BKMS team’s wives and girlfriends attending. Congratulations must go to all the Championship winners and those who won special awards. Also, throughout the evening, £1500 worth of raffle money was raised for the cancer charity Marie Curie thanks to the efforts of Wendy Barker and helpers. There was also a tyre raffle to help fund the British Superkart Association. Well done to all involved. More recently, BKMS Racing went to Tarporley Community High School to visit the team members of the NatSKA (National Schools Karting Association) club Tarporley Karting Team. Paul displayed his Superkart and trophies and prepared handouts for the kids to take away. Paul and Neil held an open question forum with around 30 club members, school children, parents and helpers. The backdrop for the event was computer projected footage of Superkart racing showing the speed of these little machines. The children were thrilled to have a sit in the kart and try it for size, although in many cases major adjustments were required! ‘It was a privilege to be asked to go and talk about Superkarting with a like-minded bunch of karters’, Paul said. ‘It was great to see so many children coming into the sport at an early age. I enjoyed passing on my experiences to the youngsters. They are very savvy and were asking intelligent, searching questions, especially during the Podcast interview!’ (watch the website for the Podcast over the winter!). The club (www.tarporleykarting.co.uk) is the largest of its kind in the UK and is now 20 years old. It’s a great way for school children to participate in entry-level motor racing and also learn how to control a motor vehicle well before their driving tests! Many of the club members have already had significant success in their racing careers including some NatSKA wins and podiums at local and National level including NatSKA National titles. Tarporley are generally acknowledged as the most successful team of its kind in the country. The team even presented Paul and Neil with champagne and chocolates as thanks for the event – now that’s hospitality! BKMS Racing thank Paul Sirett and Richard Percival along with the rest of the team at TKT for the opportunity to be involved with this great club. BKMS Racing thank everyone involved in the sport for making 2007 such a great season for Superkart. Merry Christmas to you and your families and we’ll see you in the New Year! www.bkmsracing.com Photos by Joy Parker & www.cadwellpics.com
